Why Attending Instructor and GSI Office Hours are Important to You

| Are you just entering Cal as a first year or transfer? Please be sure to start attending office hours. This is an important investment in more ways than one. Sure it can help to improve your understanding of what professors and graduate student instructors (GSI's) expect of you in classes, labs and sections. Just as important, they may be the ones writing your letters of recommendation for future internships, science jobs, and graduate schools. Check your instructor's web site, know a little about them (or ask), go in with a question or two. Find out if they or their graduate students need help - graduate students are an excellent entry in research groups. If you do not have your class schedule confirmed, talk to either an L&S advisor or the major advisor for the department offering the class. |
