Manager, Hidden Bias Research Prize

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic leader to coordinate and implement our Hidden Bias Research Prize, bringing her/his own ideas to ways this can best be accomplished.  This individual will be comfortable building on what has been achieved to date and launching this new initiative, which has great potential for national impact.  We are seeking someone well-versed in the literature of implicit bias, particularly as it applies to educational and workplace environments.

Through our sister organization, the Level Playing Field Institute, we piloted an inaugural program in 2011 called the Hidden Bias Research Prize. Click here for more information on the history of the Prize.

The position is .5 FTE and can be completed remotely (although we strongly prefer a SF Bay Area-based individual). We offer competitive compensation (DOE), fulfilling work, and great team/office environment in Uptown Oakland.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated experience as a successful leader/manager in any arena—i.e. launching an initiative, organization, company, campaign, etc. Strong project management skills.

Passionate about organizational reform, fairness, helping educational institutions and workplaces be more meritocratic, and disruptive innovations to accomplish these goals.

Comfort with basic concepts of hidden bias/implicit bias/unconscious bias and stereotype threat, as well as reviewing academic research and talking to academic researchers.

Ability to assist with securing additional support – funding, collaborations, etc.  – from foundations, corporations and/or individuals.

Comfort with use of social media to build awareness and fundraising campaigns.

Ability to manage and build engagement from organizing committee of accomplished academics, education reformers, and corporate diversity officers.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please send a brief cover letter, your LinkedIn profile link (or resume) to jobsATkaporcenter.org. Additionally, please give your thoughts the following question in 1,000-3,000 words:

What three new studies ought to be conducted, building on past work in the field of hidden bias from any discipline, that would offer specific strategies to increase the number of underrepresented people pursuing tech-related majors and careers?

No calls, please! We will review submissions and meet candidates on a rolling basis. See more at http://kaporcenter.org/

Deadline to apply is April 30, 2014.
